Te Aka Mauri, Poutokomanawa.

This carving is modelled on a traditional Māori Meeting House, where the Poutokomanawa is the all-important centre pole, the heart of the house.

The Poutokomanawa in Te Aka Mauri stands strong, holding up the roof and represents the value of collaborative strength to be found in Te Aka Mauri. It stands 5.5 metres high and was carved by local carver Shannon Wafer from one single piece of timber.
