"In 1942 the Initial Training Wing ( where all RNZAF volunteers did their initial testing and square bashing ) transferred from Levin to Rotorua and many thousand went through the schools there.
Most classes were photographed in front of the Hinemoa Hotel and our archives contain many copies".
Excerpt from Obituary published Rotorua Post 04/09/1951
"In 1947 he was noted as being the oldest member of the Rotorua RSA at 82 Years old.
He was a Coach Driver between Rotorua & Tauranga for many years. At age 50 he enlisted in the Army and was a Driver. He embarked with a transport carrying 800 horses.
He was wounded in 1917 and eventually after seeing the campaign through was discharged from the Army in 1918.

Excerpt from 'New Century in Rotorua' by Don Stafford.
"Rotorua was chosen mainly because of the health spa facilities. Special quarters were provided on Pukeroa Hill during mid-1915 and referred to as the Rotorua Cottage Hospital. By October there were 20 invalided soldiers in residence and additions were expected to be in use before the new year. The new establishment named King George V Hospital was opened on 12 January 1916. By mid-January 68 men of all ranks were quartered there under the command of Colonel Newall, with Dr Wohlmann as principal Medical Officer."
