This memorial is situated in the Government Gardens just behind the Croquet Club building. It was built in 1924 and unveiled on July 6th 1924 by Major-General Melville, G.O.C of the NZ Forces. It was to have been unveiled on ANZAC day of that year, but had to be postponed due the the Railway Strike.

This memorial was sculpted and built by Parkinson & Co Monumental Masons of Auckland and Mr Parkinson himself supervised the installation.
