Brief Biography

Rotorua Mayor 1929 to 1941

Arrived in New Zealand from England in 1910 and settled in Rotorua that year. Spent some years in the building trade, before taking over a farm on the outskirts of the then Borough. In later years he combined his farming interests with milk vendering.

Was first elected to the Borough Council in 1925, and in 1929 defeated the then sitting Mayor, Mr McLean, for mayoralty. Was a very active huntsman and member of the Rotorua and Bay of Plenty Hunt Club.

The Municipal block, embracing the administration wing of the Council, the Public Library, Concert Chambers and Regent Theatre, is a lasting memorial to his term as mayor.
