Brief Biography

Rotorua Mayor 1947 to 1953.

Born in Australia in 1898. Came to New Zealand in 1906. Settled in Whakatane where he was a member of that Borough Council from 1926 to 1935, when he shifted to Rotorua and successfully contested the parliamentary seat for the Rotorua Electorate, a seat which he held until 1943. Served with the R.N.Z.A.F. in Malaya during World War II.

During his term in Rotorua Mr Moncur entered the furniture business in association with his sons. Left Rotorua in 1955 and moved to Auckland.
