Rotorua Mayor 1953 to 1971

Born in the Manawatu, came to Rotorua from Auckland in 1939 as Assistant Superintendent of the Lands Development Department. Played rugby for New Zealand University and Auckland University, and Auckland Provincial teams. Very prominent in local Horticultural circles. Chairman of Rotorua High School Board of Governors.

First elected to Rotorua Borough Council in 1947, and defeated Mr Moncur in the Mayoralty election in 1953. In 1962 was elected Dominion President of the New Zealand Municipal Association, and also New Zealand President of the National Rose Society. An active worker in the Presbyterian Church and present Session Clerk of the St Andrew's Presbyterian Church.
