Rotorua Mayor 1979 to 1991

Born in Paeroa. Educated at Matamata College and Ardmore College. Was a school teacher at Matamata and Upper Atiamuri Primary Schools. Purchased a farm in the Ngakuru district. Served on the Provincial Executive of the Rotorua-Taupo Province of Federated Farmers, the Rotorua District Veterinary Club and the Rotorua High School Board of Governors.

Played representative rugby for the Bay of Plenty 1954-1959.

Chairman of the County Council from 1976. Became the first Mayor of the Rotorua District Council after the amalgamation of the Rotorua City and County in 1979.

Exec. member of Municipal Assn. 1981-88 ; Government Appointee to Tourism Advisory Forum 1990 ; Transit NZ Authority 1992. ; Chairman, Whanau  Ngatanga Maori Boy's Hostel Trust ; BOP RFU Finance Committee. Represented BOP Rugby 1954-59.
