Rotorua's Postmaster c1886-1900

Mr Dansey was one of the only residents of  Rotorua who was on duty at the time of the Tarawera Eruption. As the town's only Postmaster and Telegraph Operator he stayed at his post keeping the outside world in touch with the situation and finding time also to assist his fellow settlers.

In 1888 Mr Dansey received his commission as clerk interpreter to the Magistrate's Court in Rotorua and ten years later was appointed a Government member of the Rotorua Town Board. In 1900 however he was transfered to Waikato? where he remained for 3 years before being appointed to Ashburton. He remained in charge of the Post Office there until 1913 when he retired from the service and returned to Rotorua.

He and wife Wikitoria ('Wiki) Dansey had a family of 4 sons : Harry Delamere Dansey, Roger I Dansey, George R. Dansey, Edward P. Dansey and 1 daughter Mrs E. Butt.
