A brief history

Operated in Tutanekai Street for about 60 years up to March 1989.

Excerpts from Rotorua newspapers, in Rotorua Theatres booklet compiled by Allan Webb.

In 1925 it was known as the Kings Theatre, this original hall was demolished in 1937 and it was known as the Majestic Ballroom. It was replaced by McKenzies.

The 'new' Majestic Theatre built in 1927 was listed as having 830 seats some of which were 'cuddle' seats which hailed from the days when couples were 'courting'.  The Majestic Theatre was demolished in Jan 1990.
