A brief history

Operated in Tutanekai Street for about 60 years up to March 1989.

Excerpts from Rotorua newspapers, in Rotorua Theatres booklet compiled by Allan Webb.

The site in 1911 was an Assembly Hall which was later used to welcome King Edward VII. In 1925 it was known as the Kings Theatre, this original hall was demolished and  rebuilt, in 1937 it was the Majestic Ballroom, later the 'new' Majestic Theatre  was listed as having 830 seats some of which were 'cuddle' seats which hailed from the days when couples were 'courting'. The theatre was demolished in Jan 1990.
