Unveiled at the same time as the Totara Pillar or column in memory of the three chiefs : Otimi Tikitere and his sons, Ngawhika Otimi and Tamihana Tikitere in 1932. The flagstaff was a tribal contribution in honour of the departed chiefs.

Otimi Tikitere died at the age of 86, approx. 1910

Ngawhika Otimi died at the age of 80,  approx 1928

Tamihana Tikitere died at the age of 72, same as Ngawhika?
