Harcourt's Ice Rink

A vacant local shop in the CBD is to be converted into a workshop space for five weeks as part of Fire and Ice – Rotorua’s Winter Festival.

The workshops will provide the opportunity for locals and visitors to make lanterns to be showcased during the festival at ‘Luminite,’ a free lights trail event at Government Gardens on 26 July.

Rotorua District Council’s major events coordinator, Kylie Lang, says she is excited at the opportunity to have locals being a part of the event”.

“The cost of taking part in the workshops is just $2 and this covers tuition and materials, so it’s a great activity for the whole family”.

“This is the first time this has been done in Rotorua thanks to the support of the Rotorua Energy Charitable Trust”.

“We would love the community to come down and give lantern making a go, especially our local schools and community groups”.

Lantern Workshops begin on 27 June with the Fire and Ice festival kicking off on 29 June with the opening of the Harcourts sponsored ice rink. The festival is a family focused event and has been created for locals as well as to encourage visitors to the district during a usually quiet time of year.

The workshops are an addition to the already exciting line up of Fire and Ice events, including the Harcourts Outdoor Ice Rink, Mid-Winter Christmas at the Night Market, Outdoor Movie at the Village Green, and ‘Luminite’ lights trail at Government Gardens.

Fire and Ice is proudly sponsored by the Rotorua District Council, First Sovereign Trust, The Radio Network, Rotorua Daily Post and the Rotorua Energy Charitable Trust.
