Early Settler of Ngakuru, Rotorua

Connie came with her family (Parents : Harry Twist (d14/2/1951) & Edith Annie Twist (d22/10/1950), a sister Flora, and two brothers Robert and Noel) in 1928 and settled on a parcel of land in the Ngakuru Region on what was to become Waikaukau Road. She stayed in the region on marrying a farmer named Reginald Gollege in 1932. During her years there she was a founding member of the Ngakuru Women's Division of the Farmer's Union in 1934.

She also owned a house at 92 Ranolf Street and took in boarders, where this photograph was taken in 1960. Previously in 1955 the house was owned by G. Townsend and was a Medical Practice (Source : 1955 Wises NZ Post Office Directory) After moving from No. 92 she owned a unit on Grey Street, then moved to No. 28 Malfroy Road for several years before moving in with her daughter, Helen Hall, in Otonga Road where she had the 'Granny Flat' on the ground floor. Later when her health began to fail she moved into Cantabria Rest Home where she lived until her death in 1993.

92 Ranolf Street is now a block of flats.
